In my experience 4 hours is the perfect length for a session. It will be very manageable for most of the time and most likely the first 30-45 minutes will be stencil and drawing. And since it is your first tattoo you will have that extra excitement to help you through the tough parts. ps. great choice in shop. lots of great artists there!

I got my first tattoo about 3 months ago and it seems somewhat similar in size and style to what you are getting. Mine took around 7 hours and i sat through it with no issues aside from the obvious discomfort that comes from sitting that long. Using our laser (state of the art Enlighten 3) we advise waiting 8-10 weeks between the first and second session. This gives time for the tattoo area to heal along with allowing the process of pigment degradation to take effect.

Do not expose a new tattoo to UV rays for as long as 4–6 weeks. Sun will make it fade. Later, if you go out in bright daylight, apply sunblock. One of the biggest mistakes people make is putting too much cream on their new tattoos for too long. This delays healing. Follow your tattooist's advice thoroughly.
