To be eligible to receive zakat, the recipient must be poor and/or needy. A poor person is someone whose property, in excess of his basic requirements, does not reach the nisab threshold. The recipient must not belong to your immediate family; your spouse, children, parents and grandparents cannot receive your zakat.

It is permissible to give one's due zakat to one's financially disabled ascendants and descendants. It is also permissible to give it to one's son-in-law (daughter's husband), to one's married daughter if her husband is needy and to the sister in need.
Both a son and a daughter equally are responsible for their parent’s needs. If there is only one child, then that child must take full responsibility for his parents. Answer. Yes, it is permissible to pay your zakat to your sister and your brothers who are in need of the money for their livelihood or to set up some means of earning an income. You may not pay your zakat to relatives you are obliged to support such as your children or parents. And God the Almighty knows best.
